Wellfleet, MA

The town of Wellfleet is located halfway between the “fist” and “elbow” of Cape Cod. It was first settled by the Nauset Tribe, and later European settlers in the 1650s, who named the area “Billingsgate” in reference both to the famous fish market in London, and to the plentiful bounty that the fishermen hauled into the harbor. Originally under the jurisdiction of Eastham, the town was created after a successful petition by the residents in 1763.
